What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online, especially for moms. It’s a commission-based business model where you promote other people’s products or services and earn a percentage of the sales you generate. Once you have chosen a platform to promote, you can spend only an hour or two per day creating content. This is the BEST business model for moms who may only have a few hours a day to devote to a new business.
How does affiliate marketing work?
Affiliate marketing works by promoting a product or service on your website, social media account, or blog. When someone clicks on your affiliate link and makes a purchase, you earn a commission. You’ve probably already seen this concept on social media where someone asks you to click the link in bio.
Why is affiliate marketing a good way to make money?
It’s a passive income stream.
Once you set up your affiliate marketing campaigns, you can start earning money without having to do much work. I’ve seen countless women earning more in a day on vacation than I do with my paycheck every 2 weeks. It’s because they created automated systems to run their business while they are on vacation or sleeping. Imagine being able to make money while you go see your kid’s soccer match or play at school. Not having to request time off from an overbearing boss. Finally experience time freedom with affiliate marketing.
It’s flexible.
You can work from home and set your own hours. A lot of work can be done from your phone while kids are playing. Use voice text like Siri to draft your content into a notepad. You can save computer work for when kids are napping or at night. And create stunning visual content like reels or photos for Pinterest during the day.
It’s low-cost.
You don’t need to invest in any products or inventory. Once you find your affiliate products, the only real cost is with automation tools you may choose to use. Many of these offer free trials and will pay for themselves in no time with the amount of time you will save.
You don’t need an advanced degree.
I can’t tell you how many people I see from all kinds of backgrounds making money with affiliate marketing. There are no special degrees or training required. All you need is a desire to succeed and a passion for the product you’re promoting.
You don’t need a big following.
A following is not necessary to get started. You can create a brand new account and be earning money within 1-2 months if you dedicate yourself to fine-tuning your marketing skills.
It’s scalable.
You can earn more money by promoting more products or services. It becomes almost addicting looking for new products to promote once you have momentum. You truly will want to find products to help your audience. For instance, I love helping moms find a way out of their 9-to-5 jobs so they can spend more time with their kids. I create content around finding side hustles, budgeting, and productivity tips to help them see it IS possible. It’s challenging for sure, but possible.
It can help you build an email list.
When I started my blog, the one advice I encountered over and over is to build a list. Once you have an email list, you can continue to market other people’s products OR you can create your own digital products. This can help you diversify your streams of income.
Here are the 5 steps to make money with affiliate marketing:
Step 1 Choose a niche
- Do your research to find a niche that is profitable and has a large enough audience.
- Choose a niche that you are passionate about and knowledgeable about. This will make it easier for you to create content that your audience will find valuable.

Step 3 Create content
- Create high-quality content that provides value to your audience. This could include blog posts, articles, videos, or social media posts.
- Be sure to include your affiliate links in your content in a natural and non-spammy way.
Step 4 Promote your content
- There are many different ways to promote your content, such as social media, email marketing, and paid advertising.
- You can start with free methods of generating traffic like posting on social media and pinning. You can also build a list with an email autoresponder like Aweber or ConvertKit. Once you start seeing success, start attempting paid promotions to scale your business.
Step 5 Track your results
- It is important to track your results so that you can see what is working and what is not. This will help you optimize your affiliate marketing efforts and make more money.
- You can try split testing sales funnels using Click Funnels to help determine which campaigns are performing the best.
With a little effort, you can make money with affiliate marketing and achieve your financial goals.
Get inspired with these real world examples of affiliate marketing in action:
